About this work

Key Selling Points

Samantabhadra theme, carrying aspiration, action and grounded diligence

Samantabhadra's artistic image often brings to mind having a wish in the heart and a road beneath the feet, and the life attitude of carrying goodwill and ideals into everyday action. As a small cultural artwork, it suits good wishes for assured goals, words matching deeds and a life moving steadily forward.

Accompanied by a white elephant, strength within gentle steadiness

The white elephant is round and steady in form, striding forward with head raised and trunk slightly lifted, in natural, harmonious echo with the figure seated on it. The elephant motif adds calm, patience and a sense of action, and makes the dignified figure more approachable, lively and worth quiet viewing.

A pink-white body against canopy and throne, fresh colors with rich layers

The pink-white body is the visual center, standing out among the warm gold canopy, vermilion throne, lake-blue garments, royal blue clouds and pink-purple halo. The warm and cool colors set each other off, keeping the rich, ornate decoration of traditional thangka while showing a fresh, bright and spacious visual atmosphere.

Accompanied by lotuses, clouds and architectural patterns, a dignified, open mood within a tiny space

The pink lotus, flowing clouds, warm gold canopy, throne and architectural patterns unfold in layers around the figure and the elephant. The intricate yet orderly background details not only enrich the spatial layers but give the work, beyond its splendor, a warm, peaceful and imaginative artistic mood.

Abundant details in the crown, necklaces, canopy and elephant's saddle ornament, rewarding traditional patterns

From the crown on the head, earrings, necklaces and garment ornament to the canopy tassels, throne patterns, elephant saddle ornament and blooming lotus seat, the picture extends in order from the center outward. The linework is fine and the colors vivid, suited to close appreciation of the fine beauty of Regong thangka composition, color and decorative craftsmanship.

Cultural Meaning

Samantabhadra's artistic image can often be understood as a hope for good aspirations and solid practice. The peaceful, gentle face, the steady white elephant, the blooming lotus and the ornate, open cloud patterns seem to remind us: wishes of real weight do not only stay in the heart; they also depend on being willing to start from the small things in front of you and carry them out bit by bit.

Many changes in life do not need a moment's fervor so much as long-term earnestness. Whether learning a skill, tending a relationship or finishing something important, you can begin by keeping patience, keeping promises and doing well what is at hand. Don't rush for speed, and don't give up your direction because of a momentary difficulty; walk each day steadily, and many goals that once seemed far will gradually draw closer through continual accumulation.

The blessing this mini thangka conveys is the wish that you always have clear wishes in your heart and the courage to put them into practice; may you keep goodwill, patience and drive in ordinary days, walking toward a richer, wider life with steady steps forward.

May your heart have wishes and your actions have direction;

may your words match your deeds and you progress solidly every day;

may your steps be steady and the road ahead gradually open.

General craft background

Notes on Color Thangka Craftsmanship

Color thangka uses natural mineral coloring as its core visual language. On a smooth, finely prepared cotton ground, the painter sketches and outlines the figures according to iconographic rules, then applies color layer by layer using mineral pigments such as cinnabar, realgar, malachite green, azurite blue, conch-shell white, red ochre and yellow ochre, together with small amounts of plant-based color.

During painting, the pigments are ground, settled and mixed with binder, then blended with animal glue and applied in thin washes. Through repeated glazing from light to dark, the painter renders the texture of the deity's body, the folds of garments, lotus patterns, rocks and clouds, and background ornament, so the colors are full and vivid while keeping fine, translucent layers.

Mineral pigments commonly used in color thangka include:

  • Cinnabar: for robes, lotuses, flame patterns and red ornament
  • Realgar: for the warm yellow of the deity's body, crowns and local patterns
  • Malachite / mineral green: for lotus leaves, landscapes, garments and blue-green ornament
  • Lapis lazuli / azurite blue: for the sky, background, garment folds and blue details
  • Conch-shell white: for highlighting the body, cloud patterns, pearls and facial details
  • Red ochre, yellow ochre: for rocks, ground, skin-tone transitions and warm layers
  • Carbon black: for outlines, hair, shadows and contour details

After the main coloring is done, the painter outlines contours, garment folds and patterns with a fine brush, and uses gold leaf, gold powder or mud gold in places such as the halo, crown, ritual implements, garment edges and important motifs to paint details, adding dignity and opulent layers to the work.

Because every thangka is hand-painted, no two works are exactly alike. Slight color differences or variations in local brushwork or pattern details caused by photographic lighting, screen display and the properties of natural materials are within the normal range.

If the work you receive has any of the following, we will replace it with a new one free of charge:

Obvious creases, damage or stains on the painting;

Damage to the canvas, paint layer or mounting that affects the overall display;
